How I Finally Got Control Of My Acne

By on October 25, 2017

Acne – the thing you’re not supposed to have at age 24. The thing no one likes to talk about but a lot of people have and you don’t even realize.

But I’ve had it since I was in high school and I’ve tried it all – spending thousands on dermatologists, creams, serums, face washes, and I’ve done a round of Accutane. And still have acne.

It has taken me a pathetically long time to realize that every single thing that touches your face makes a difference – externally and internally. I used to think it was all genes and just frankly having bad skin. Plus, it doesn’t help that I constantly touch my face. I love a good magnifying mirror (yuck).

I’ve used just about everything at the drug store – Neutrogena, Proactiv, Biore, Yes to Tomatoes, Burts Bees, Dermalogica, the list goes on. I’ve also used all the creams that dermatologists gave me – Adapalene, Retin-A (retinol), etc.

But it had really started getting bad in the past year and I decided to just take a step back and think about the basics and what even causes me to break out.

It has taken a good amount of time experimenting with things like my diet, which I will do a separate post on, and plenty of products.

The Best Dry Shampoo Out There

By on October 18, 2017

I have tried every brand of dry shampoo out there – all the drugstore brands, all the high-end brands and nothing beats Batiste.

It’s no wonder it was voted #1 best in the UK.

But I recently just tried a different flavor (yes I call them flavors instead of scents, types, etc.) called Fresh and I love it even more.

You know that smell when you leave the salon after having your hair done and it doesn’t even matter what product they used, it just smells amazing?

Why I’ll Never Wear Normal Deodorant Again

By on October 8, 2017

So I’ve been reading for a while about how horrible mainstream deodorant is for you. I’ve always heard that the aluminum in it is bad for you but I never really knew why so here’s what my research said:

“Aluminum salts—in the form of aluminum chloride, aluminum zirconium, aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminum hydroxybromide—prevent us from sweating when aluminum ions are drawn into the cells that line the sweat ducts, causing the cells to swell and squeezing the ducts closed so sweat cannot get out.” – Mother Earth Living

Aluminum is considered a neurotoxin linked to breast cancer and neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s. The link above explains how exactly. Now I’m not saying that aluminum is going to give you breast cancer or Alzheimer’s, but if we can avoid any risks associated to breast cancer, why not do so?

A lot of people seemed to go through a ton of trial and error finding a natural deodorant – there’s sticks, creams, and other weird methods like not wearing any at all at first (no thanks), but luckily the first one I tried worked perfectly.

So here’s the gist on Schmidt’s:

Helps neutralize odors naturally
Plant-based powders absorb wetness without use of aluminum
Scented with essential oils; no artificial fragrance
Free of aluminum, propylene glycol, paragons and phthalates – well Katie, wtf are those?

Ulta Haul 💄

By on June 14, 2017

So one of my birthday presents was a gift card to Ulta. And when you aren’t running out of anything you need, that means run wild and buy anything and everything you’ve been wanting to try.

I may or may not have snapped some of the stuff I purchased but I wanted to try everything before I did a post about it!

P.S. I like to buy travel-size things before buying the full-size because I’m trying to act like I’ve learned my lesson when it comes to buying products and only using them once…

1. TonyMoly Water Sleeping Pack – I freaking love TonyMoly. I went on a Korean skincare kick a few months back and this is the one brand that stuck with me. I haven’t come to a complete consensus on this one yet…I’ve been trying to moisturize my skin more because I’m constantly drying it out with masks (thank you acne) so a few nights a week I sleep with a serum on my face.

Ombre nail obsession + my disgusting habit

By on June 13, 2017

Confession time. I have bit my nails since I was 10 years old. I’ve tried solving it with polish that tastes bad, gel, anything and everything people suggested to me. My mom’s now suggesting I see a hypnotist.

But I finally found a nail lady that I love and she said, “We are going to break you of this habit.” She told me she’s helped other people do it and she had someone so bad that while she was getting her acrylics or gel taken off, she would sit there and bit her natural nails off before they could even be redone. Ew.

It is so disgusting and I am constantly reminded by everyone that there is so much bacteria on your hands and under your nails.

Trust me, I know it’s gross but I don’t even realize I’m doing it. A doctor once told me it’s normal for people with ADHD to do because it’s a fidgeting habit.

Anywayyyys, I went in to Midtown Nails one day because I had yet to find a nail salon or tech that I’m really happy with here in Charlotte. But they had good reviews on Google so I figured I would give them a try.

I came in to get pink and white ombre done with a coffin shape (see nail chart here – thank you Fashionlush) and Lisa did a freaking phenomenal job. Phe. Nom. En. Al.

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray + Mac Fix+ Dupe

By on May 24, 2017

So I bought Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray one time probably 5 years ago and then I found an article on how to make it yourself, wrote it down, and haven’t paid for another bottle since.

I’ve also read that this is comparable to MAC Fix+ but I’ve never used it.

Here’s the magical recipe to mix up in your spray bottle:

Balayage at Salon M2 Charlotte

By on April 26, 2017

So I don’t dye my hair – which I think most people know with my red hair.

But the beautiful Taylor Sharpe hooked me up with Salon M2 near Stonecrest in south Charlotte.

Since it’s about to be summer, I decided I want to do balayage and holy jesus christ it turned out so freaking perfect.

I just don’t even have words. It’s perfect since I don’t usually color my hair – it’s the perfect shade, not too blonde but the blonde streaks are very visible throughout.
