It’s Friday

By on June 16, 2017

So I’m going to try this new thing where every Friday, I’ll share what I’m reading, listening to, products and things I’m coveting and loving, and quotes that have stuck with me.

What I’m reading:
Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth
Wtf is grit? Duckworth describes grit as a combination of passion and perseverance and how it is often overshadowed by talent incorrectly. Long-term passion turn into great achievement when supported by perseverance – which is something we millennials have a hard time doing: sticking things out. Because here’s the thing – you can’t get anywhere if you don’t have a long-term goal, which she does acknowledge can take some time to nail down – people don’t find these things over night. She then goes on to explain that you’re not SOL if you don’t feel that you have true grit. But that you can become a gritty person through learning the four psychological assets that mature paragons of grit exhibit: interest, practice, purpose and hope. Such a good read…I love her examples. It was definitely a book I didn’t want to put down. (I LOVE TO READ. Yes, this one probably sounds very re-search-esque but trust me, it’s a good read for everyone)

What I’m listening to:
The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast – The Bitch Bible – Episode 22
If you haven’t heard of Jackie Schimmel of the Bitch Bible, you are missing out. She is freaking hilarious and Lauryn Evarts and her fiancé Michael Bosstick are typically hilarious themselves. Jackie doesn’t hesitate to tell it like it is. She is real af. In this episode, she discusses “her love of all things ‘Real Housewives,’ why James Kennedy from ‘Vanderpump Rules’ is the worst, what made her start a blog, and why people should be honest about the plastic surgery they get.”

Currently coveting:
Urban Decay Shapeshifter Palette – because Ulta ran out of light/medium palettes this week so I haven’t been able to get my hands on one 🙄

Product I’m loving:
RenPure shampoo and conditioner – I’ve been using this brand for a while now. Right now, I’m using the Coconut Cream shampoo and the 7 Super Oils conditioner. I love this brand because their products don’t have any sodium chloride, sulfates, dyes, harsh salts, or parabens (aka things that strip your hair)!

Quote I’m contemplating:
@_stephanierao‘s quote “Start your week aggressively, write down your goals, envision yourself completing them. Now go crush the week. Remember we become our actions.” (yeah I’m basically free marketing for some of the people I follow on instagram)

Ulta Haul 💄

By on June 14, 2017

So one of my birthday presents was a gift card to Ulta. And when you aren’t running out of anything you need, that means run wild and buy anything and everything you’ve been wanting to try.

I may or may not have snapped some of the stuff I purchased but I wanted to try everything before I did a post about it!

P.S. I like to buy travel-size things before buying the full-size because I’m trying to act like I’ve learned my lesson when it comes to buying products and only using them once…

1. TonyMoly Water Sleeping Pack – I freaking love TonyMoly. I went on a Korean skincare kick a few months back and this is the one brand that stuck with me. I haven’t come to a complete consensus on this one yet…I’ve been trying to moisturize my skin more because I’m constantly drying it out with masks (thank you acne) so a few nights a week I sleep with a serum on my face.

Ombre nail obsession + my disgusting habit

By on June 13, 2017

Confession time. I have bit my nails since I was 10 years old. I’ve tried solving it with polish that tastes bad, gel, anything and everything people suggested to me. My mom’s now suggesting I see a hypnotist.

But I finally found a nail lady that I love and she said, “We are going to break you of this habit.” She told me she’s helped other people do it and she had someone so bad that while she was getting her acrylics or gel taken off, she would sit there and bit her natural nails off before they could even be redone. Ew.

It is so disgusting and I am constantly reminded by everyone that there is so much bacteria on your hands and under your nails.

Trust me, I know it’s gross but I don’t even realize I’m doing it. A doctor once told me it’s normal for people with ADHD to do because it’s a fidgeting habit.

Anywayyyys, I went in to Midtown Nails one day because I had yet to find a nail salon or tech that I’m really happy with here in Charlotte. But they had good reviews on Google so I figured I would give them a try.

I came in to get pink and white ombre done with a coffin shape (see nail chart here – thank you Fashionlush) and Lisa did a freaking phenomenal job. Phe. Nom. En. Al.

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray + Mac Fix+ Dupe

By on May 24, 2017

So I bought Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray one time probably 5 years ago and then I found an article on how to make it yourself, wrote it down, and haven’t paid for another bottle since.

I’ve also read that this is comparable to MAC Fix+ but I’ve never used it.

Here’s the magical recipe to mix up in your spray bottle:

Back to Kayla’s BBG and some unfortunate news about working out

By on May 23, 2017

So I’ve been struggling to lose the lbs.

As much as I love a good booty workout, I’ve been noticing I am adding muscle but I’m not toning or getting lean like I want to. I’m just not yet at a point of wanting to maintain my weight – I need to shred.

But what I fail to realize is that EVERYTHING you do makes a difference and either helps or hurts your body. Every single thing.

In this video I came across the other day, they explain that while 100% of the “calories in” are up to you, only 30% of the “calories out” are in your control.

And we all know that with exercise, our appetites go up. I’m guilty of it all the time. After being at work for 30 minutes: “Damn, I’m super hungry this morning, I’m going to eat that bagel,” after I already ate breakfast at home.

And I think a lot of people share the same issue with me –  I really don’t eat all that bad, I just eat too much. Portion control has been my biggest weakness lately.

Apple cider vinegar and all it’s magic

By on April 27, 2017

Every morning after the gym and before I eat breakfast, I work a shot/spoonful of apple cider vinegar (acv) into my routine.

I also read all the time about how a glass of warm lemon water in the morning is v good for you. And I know the benefits are real because it’s on the internet (I’m joking yall). But really there are many benefits to drinking warm lemon water in the AM, some of which are here. The main reasons I drink it are:

1. Increases detoxification by helping re-start digestive system after sleeping
2. Lemon has vitamin C which is good for the immune system and can potentially reduce stress (which this girl neeeds)
3. Your body breathes out one liter of water every night so you need to replenish

Balayage at Salon M2 Charlotte

By on April 26, 2017

So I don’t dye my hair – which I think most people know with my red hair.

But the beautiful Taylor Sharpe hooked me up with Salon M2 near Stonecrest in south Charlotte.

Since it’s about to be summer, I decided I want to do balayage and holy jesus christ it turned out so freaking perfect.

I just don’t even have words. It’s perfect since I don’t usually color my hair – it’s the perfect shade, not too blonde but the blonde streaks are very visible throughout.

Currently Loving

By on April 24, 2017

So I’ve been wanting Adidas NMD’s for a while now. I’m typically a Nike girl but I really like these. But I haven’t been able to find a color or style I want under $300 yet.

I was considering pulling the trigger on these from Stadium Goods but then I stopped at Dick’s the other night and walked through the shoe section and these caught my eye…

I had to have them. I’m freaking obsessed.

And guess what?! The kids sizes will fit most women (I usually wear a 6.5 and wear a 5.0 in kids) so they’re only $60!

Have a great week.

Grocery shopping

By on April 20, 2017

Grocery shopping…I hate it. So much. I’m so distracted every time I go to the store it takes me ridiculously longer than it should. I could just really live without it.

It depends how much time I have/where I feel like driving but typically I shop at Harris Teeter, Whole Foods or Trader Joes.

Each week:
Bananas – for smoothies and before gym in the morning
Strawberries
Pineapple
Lemons – for my morning drink
Cuties clementines – yes I’m a kid
Broccoli
Brussel Sprouts
Carrots
Eggs
Egg whites
Wholly guacamole mini individual packs
Lara Bars – Peanut Butter and Jelly is EVERYTHING and Blueberry Muffin
