Grocery shopping

By on April 20, 2017

Grocery shopping…I hate it. So much. I’m so distracted every time I go to the store it takes me ridiculously longer than it should. I could just really live without it.

It depends how much time I have/where I feel like driving but typically I shop at Harris Teeter, Whole Foods or Trader Joes.

Each week:
Bananas – for smoothies and before gym in the morning
Strawberries
Pineapple
Lemons – for my morning drink
Cuties clementines – yes I’m a kid
Broccoli
Brussel Sprouts
Carrots
Eggs
Egg whites
Wholly guacamole mini individual packs
Lara Bars – Peanut Butter and Jelly is EVERYTHING and Blueberry Muffin

Social Media Realness

By on April 14, 2017

Social media has taken over. We all basically have a tick now where we all sit on our phones if we’re not doing something and instinctively click on Instagram or Snapchat or maybe that’s just me…

But I hate to break it to ya, social media isn’t real.

I follow a TON of fitness instagrams and people are MEAN. I think we all just need to get over the fact that almost every single person doesn’t look in real life the way they do on social media. And that bashing people on sites like GOMI, writing things like “Is this sponsored? What does she do to earn these things?,” is besides the point because blogging and social media is what certain people do as a job. So making trips and products look good is what earns them money.

I’m guilty of it – I think ‘oh my god her skin is perfect and she has abs and a perfect butt with not a single bit of cellulite, I need to kill my self in the gym tomorrow.’ And then I remember that there’s laser treatments, botox, photoshop and very skilled photographers. Just because you can’t see any stretch marks or cellulite in a picture doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Starting your day.

By on April 4, 2017

Good morning! So each day I like to remind myself of this quote:

I couldn’t say it better. Take a few minutes each morning to count your blessings and remember all that you have to be grateful for.

And as my girl Whitney Simmons always likes to say in the beginning of her videos:

“It’s a beautiful day to be alive…”

So everyone have a great day today!

KeepingItReal

My version of a disclosure:

So maybe I’ve decided that I’m going to talk about a little more than just getting back into a healthy lifestyle because I’m super extroverted, very ADHD and need a creative outlet.

Right now I’m really just trying to design my own future, a life I love and figure out how to live life on my own terms. Being 23 and trying to act like I know what I want to do with the rest of my life is hard. Half the time I’d like to up and move to the Caribbean and be a bartender.

I’m not even going to try to make this into a perfect blog – I’m far from perfect. Ultimately, I want this to be real af.

What I’d like to write about is what twenty-somethings think and talk about on a daily basis – the fun stuff (my favorite makeup, the best brands – I’m a freaking product junkie), the stupid questions I google, the things people my age don’t like to talk about, what it’s really like being a 23 year old trying to figure out her “life purpose”, all while maintaining a social life (yeah right), a relationship and some semblance of sanity. But I want to be super candid, transparent and authentic – because I think we’re all just trying to live our best life possible.

Eats

Fooood.

By on April 2, 2017

Who doesn’t love food? Or eating? I LOVE food. Love it so much. And I do eat healthy for the most part, whether I’m in the habit or working out or not, but when I want something bad and I eat it, it’s like a downward spiral for that entire day. It’s like everything goes out the window – I’m being a fatty for the day.

Anywhoooo, breakfast. Favorite meal. Will absolutely not eat lunch or dinner food for breakfast but I can eat breakfast all day long.

Here’s the green smoothie I like to make almost every morning that actually tastes good:
2 cups flax milk
2 bananas
2 scoops green powder
1 tsp maca powder
1 scoop pre workout
1/4 of a lemon
Handful of frozen spinach
I like to blend this first and then…
Add frozen strawberries, pineapples and mangos (about a handful and a half)

Working it out.

By on March 28, 2017

So I mentioned that the only consistent workout plan I’ve ever done is Kayla Itsines BBG. No discredit to her what so ever but for some reason, I dread it. I like challenging myself and I don’t feel like I am by doing so much cardio.

My boyfriend, who is a freaking saint, saw me struggling with what to do in the gym because my apartment gym just does not have a lot of equipment. He said, “you know you don’t have to do a strict, complex workout, it’s just about doing something to be active.” Crazy how simple that was when there’s so many freaking workouts out there that it’s like an information overload.

Speaking of information overload – I will say, I am ADDICTED to Whitney Simmons. That girl is like my spirit animal. Her bod, her workouts and her youtube videos are everything. I also am obsessed with Lauryn Evarts of the Skinny Confidential. I have serious anxiety and she always says how intervals really help. Whitney Simmons also mentioned that intervals are her favorite HIIT workouts.

So I made up my own workout routine. I took the interval idea, threw in some of the stuff I do like from Kayla Istine’s BBG and some of the stuff I’ve seen on Whitney Simmons’s videos and other crap I’ve seen on Instagram.

Routine:
Whitney Simmons – Stretching Routine
10 min of intervals – 2 min of walking, 30 seconds of treadmill on somewhere between 9.5 to 10.0 and then I hop off with my feet on either side for 30 seconds, do this up until 10 min mark
Superset of:
Push-ups – 10, then 15
Ab bikes – 50
Straight leg jackknifes – 25
Straight leg raises – 25
Then triset of:
Sumo squats on smith machine w/ 20 lbs added – 10
Tricep dips – 15
Weighted lunges w/15 lbs – 24

It’s nothing difficult, nothing over complicated but also nothing that I hate doing. I know it’s nothing super hard but it gets my heart rate up, it gets the booty muscles burning and I’m sore the next day. I’m really just learning how to love working out.

So here it goes…

By on March 26, 2017

People ask me all the time how I stay in shape and what I eat but the real answer is…I don’t really work out and I don’t eat all that well. I’m basically skinny fat (gasp!). God, I hate admitting it. But I’m working on it!

I recently finally started working out consistently (almost) and I snap chat basically everything I eat – not because I think people give a crap but really for accountability for myself. If I don’t document it, I can’t keep myself on track. But I’m constantly writing down recipes and the workouts I do in my notes on my phone or in Evernote and in notebooks so I’ve decided to consolidate them and why not do it somewhere that I can share.

When I say I finally started working out again – I’m lying. I mean this girl hasn’t worked out consistently in her life. I always played sports and was a gymnast so I never had to. Then I went to college – I skipped the freshman 15, but come junior year, it was more than 15. I cringe every time I see pictures. The most consistent working out I’ve ever done in my life was my senior year of college before spring break when I actually did the Kayla Itsines workout for 2-3 months (yeah, that’s pathetic) but it was like pulling teeth. I think I’ve been blessed with some pretty great genes (thank you momma) to not have to work out consistently but I know I need it to stay healthy and to live a healthy lifestyle. Plus working out is such a stress reliever for me.

So here I am, starting this to document my progress. I’m going to share my workouts and what I’m eating each week to keep myself on track. And who knows, maybe some other crazy stuff that goes through a 23 year old’s mind…
